I have been at university now for about 6 weeks, and still haven’t written anything for you guys yet. So here I am giving you guys a little update on what’s happening In Sophie’s World and Mind, and showing you what my university room looks like in halls this year. I moved into my new home for the next 9 months on Sunday 17th September; I just didn’t get around to posting anything about living here for ages because finding a balance between school, social life and a blog was a bit chaotic. Now I have been here a while, I thought it was time to give myself a ‘routine’ (we will see how long that routine lasts.)
I am living in Portsmouth for any of you who are new here, I am studying International Relations and Politics and in my first year. I moved away from Northern Ireland for studying, simply for a change I’ve lived in Northern Ireland my whole life & I wanted to experience something new, a chance to figure out adult life on my own. I’m not going to lie, I was terrified the thought of my family being 600 miles across the ocean from me – I miss them all the time but my granddad always tells me when I call him “It’s an experience, treat it like an adventure” haha and he’s not wrong. I have been loving it so far.
As well as attending classes and socialising. I have been cooking all my own meals, preparing and batch cooking for lazy days – also working on some new recipes for the blog as I haven’t posted anything since Maca Chocolate Brownies; back in August. So they are long overdue, I have a few in the making at the minute- but with university essays and deadlines my posting schedule may not be the same as before. I will try for you though! I have also been spending so much more time with my boyfriend now that I am only 30 minutes away from him, which is lovely we knew so much about each other doing long distance but now we have the chance to be a proper couple, yay! Making friends with a range of people has been amazing as well; people I live with, from my course and just people from wider Portsmouth through activism groups as I am now doing more public vegan activism spreading awareness on industries and connecting with like minded people. And another thing I have recently signed up to is a green impact consultant- this is a volunteering role to help make the building I live in more environmentally sustainable & for all of you following my blog know how passionate I am about saving the world. These are just some of the things I have been involved with so far.
So now you know what I have been up to at university onto the room tour.
My room is probably one of the largest in the flat- not complaining though gives me more space to do my morning/ evening yoga haha. The room has it’s own bathroom equipped with toilet, basin and shower woohoo no sharing with others! I think that was one of the main reasons why I chose this accommodation to be honest. I do have a single bed unfortunately I had to downsize moving here, but its not that uncomfortable (after my mam’s brilliant idea of adding a single duvet underneath the sheet as well as the mattress topper) haha then I got myself a double duvet (for the comfort as well as not needing to purchase another one next year) I don’t really have a theme, but mostly the things I got are in a teal, black, white or grey colour haha.
Next on my bedside table I have a black lamp, a couple of crystals (Selenite and Amethyst) as I am practising crystal healing and spirituality I like to have these beside me while I sleep. Then I also have a ceramic skull here as well, as this was a gift from my little brother (I like skulls, pirates and beanies so he thought this was a perfect gift for my birthday) also I keep my glasses here while I sleep; obviously they aren’t in the photo as I am wearing them haha.
On to the windowsill, this is where my decorations sit. I adore penguins so of course I had to bring my teddies with me! The little one was the last present she bought me 2 days before she passed, the bigger one was a Christmas gift from my mam a couple of years ago. The little clown also has sentimental value as this little ‘eejit’ is something my granddad bought for each of his 7 children back when I was really young- I found mine in my childhood memory box and thought it would be a nice addition to the room. The little plant pots bring greenery to my room as I sometimes miss the countryside from back home. Lastly the music note was a birthday gift from my boyfriend; which never lets me forget that I am a musician and that it won’t be long until I can play my violin again!
My desk is always a mess with my laptops and printer piled on here, books everywhere, and sometimes cups that I’ve had coffee in and just didn’t wash because I had to rush out to class, haha. So I will only show you a little section of the desk and you can guess how messy the rest was during the time I took this photo. Can you tell which subject I’m studying yet? haha.
I hope you have enjoyed this update post, it is something I usually do on here but I thought I should write as it has been a while and I’m sure loads of you are wondering where I’ve been – if you want to get regular updates it would be best to follow me on social media @insophiesmindxo on everything – but links on always on the sidebar and at the top of the website.
