Oxford Island, Craigavon

County Armagh is a beautiful county with many scenic views of green hills. It is 1 of the 6 counties in Northern Ireland known as the “orchard county” because of its apple orchards throughout. Many people can enjoy doing a variety of things in this county which is great from visiting old buildings, learning in museums through to beautiful walks in nature parks and enjoy some tea in cute tearooms.

Things to see and do in County Armagh

Oxford Island Nature Reserve, Craigavon

This is a conservation site; located in Craigavon on the Lough Neagh- there are miles of footpaths you can walk through this reserve to enjoy the wildlife, woods & water. Oxford Island also has play areas for young children & hold workshops at times in the summer that children would enjoy. Take a picnic with you to enjoy in nature or indulge in the Loughside café enjoying the beautiful views over the lough. Armagh Planetarium

The planetarium allows you to stargaze without having to go outside. It has an exhibition area where you can learn all about space & then enjoy a show in the planetarium theatre- the shows can vary but they are incredible to watch. You could even take a trip to Mars!

Navan Centre

Navan Fort & Centre is a must see in County Armagh; it brings history to life, enjoy myths & legends of the Ulster Cycle through interactive exhibitions. The centre offers Celtic dress up, Archaeology digging adventures for children & demonstrations on cooking, weaponry, weaving & farming in the Iron Age. Enjoy a guided tour to the Navan fort transported back to the Iron Age along the walk.

Lurgan Park

This is the 2nd largest park in Ireland- did you know that? It is a perfect spot for family picnics & walks around the lake. While you are here take a look around the Brownlow House that sits just beside the Park; this is a large old beautiful house open to the public to view.

 Tour of Armagh Cider Company – Ballinteggart

This is just outside of Portadown; you can take a tour of Armagh Cider Company; why wouldn’t you do this I mean it is the Orchard County, you might as well while you are in Armagh.

St Patrick Cathedral, Armagh

Armagh is the home of St Patrick’s Cathedral – it is definitely worth a visit. Take a guided tour to see the beauties in this Cathedral. It is full of beautiful golden interior; such a great day trip out.

Walk along the Mall

The Mall in the heart of Armagh is full of Georgian aspects, beautiful architecture & surrounded by trees- it gives you a feel for the Georgian city of Armagh.

Armagh County Museum

While you are enjoying The Mall in Armagh why not give this museum a visit- it is situation on the mall itself. Explore the history of Country Armagh from local history exhibitions, collections of wedding clothes from the ages. Stories collected from locals throughout history are captured in this museum worth the trip to experience a flavour of living in this County.

Groucho’s on the Square, Richhill

This is an old pub in the Seventeenth Century Market Square of Richhill; grab a pint of Guinness and order some tasty food. It is a beautiful little pub with a range of local beers, and amazing selection of food to choose from. On your tour of County Armagh this is one pub I recommend you visit.
